El Mercado de Guadalupe is located on the intersection of Guadalupe Road and Avenida del Yaqui(Priest Drive) The commercial building it is at the center of the Town of Guadalupe. The Mercado is over 35 years old shopping center designed in the fashion of a Mexican Mercado with inward facing shops surrounding a central plaza.
History:The Mercado was built and operated by a community-based non -profit group, the Guadalupe Organization and funded largely through an EDA grant, with some HUD assistance and land provided by the local group. Over the years, it has had variable success as a retail center with several original tenants still located there. The plaza today holds many festival events, weddings, birthday parties and graduations.
El Mercado was given two EDA Grants in 2004 with many improvements and renovations being completed at El Mercado. Salt River Project also awarded over $24,000 to renovate the landscaping and irrigation. The landscaping services and supplies were provided by Whitfill Nursery.
El Mercado has two restaurants and several shops - San Diego Bay a Mexican Style Seafood Restaurant, Del Yaqui Mexican Food, Lett'ys Fruteria, Pascua Yaqui Tribal Health, A Boxing Gym, Tommy’s Barber Shop,Virgen de Guadalupe, Servicio Cambio, Tepeyac Graphics, The Garage Bike Shop, La Fuentes Clinic, La Vereda and Pan Y Pane Bakery
